Middle School Science

Mrs. Osborn

Welcome to Middle School Science.  It’s going to be a great year now that you (or your student) are in my class!

As we learn about Physical Science (8th), Life Science (7th) and Earth Science (6th) we will do many interesting experiments and activities and each class will take 1 or more field trips.  All 3 classes will participate in the St. Catherine Engineering Fair in February and winners will take their projects to OKC to the Oklahoma Engineering Fair (but we ALL get to go along J). What fun!

For details about procedures and my class expectations, please refer to the Science Syllabus you received at the Middle School Orientation.

Our first quarter Current Events Day will be Friday, September 12.  All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will find a Science/Health article, analyze it and share their new knowledge with their class. The article can come from any publication - newspaper, magazine or on-line publication such as Science News, National Geographic, or Discover - published within the previous month or two.  ***Please encourage your student to choose an article that is meaningful to him/her and that they can understand (science can be quite technical!) and remind them to read it over carefully and ask questions before preparing their presentation.  Complete articles (all pages!) should be neatly cut out, without surrounding advertising, etc, and attached to a "My Current Event" page, which will be handed out 1-2 weeks prior to the due date.  All directions should be followed for the student to receive all 30 pts.   It's always fun to see the latest Science News!

*****Please make sure your child has plenty of school supplies.  We have no stores of paper, pencils, pens and folders, as we have had in the past.  REMEMBER… A PREPARED STUDENT is a SUCCESSFUL STUDENT.

I hope you are as excited about the year as I am.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime if you have questions or concerns by e-mail (kosborn@saint-catherine.org), phone call to the school office, or a note in your child's planner. (Please allow 24 hours for a response.)
